It´s funny, but sometimes I wonder that mothers' rule is to drive her kids crazy and made them worry about anything, maybe just because they wanna push them up to taste just a bit of what is to worry and prepare the kids until they have their own kids. But we still love them.

Veronica, like you, I was also an ex pat living for over 30 years in the USA and a brief stint in Australia. I decided to return to Brazil thinking that my life would be as good as it was in the USA. I was dead WRONG!!!! We ex pats tend to forget the daily life difficulties for doing anything down in Brazil, all the bureaucries, etc etc. My advice, do NOT come back. People are still having a difficult life, Brazil is EXTREMELLY expensive for EVERYTHING from housing to food to medicaiton and the louzy transportation we have. Violence is out of control, nobody goes to jail even after killing another person. I know we do miss our home country, but believe me Veronica, once you come back and have to live like a regular citizen down here, you will regret big time! All the foreigners who come to Brazil and have such nice comments about the country have stayed in safe places, protected, etc. Most foreigners especially Americans and British that I have met down here in Brazil live in fancy neighborhoods, they don't take the public transportation during peak time, most of them don't even bother to read about what's going on in government/politics (the rampant and non stopping corruption), the fact that the almost non existent middle class of the 80s can hardly survive since they are the ones paying for all the social programs - they are the working bees feeding the FAT QUEEN BEE (the government and its machinery)!!! We Brazilian ex pats tend to see Brazil with kind eyes, we tend to forget ALL the difficulties each of us have to deal with in our daily lives. I am sorry to be so honest about this, but I am a truly realistic person and don't fantasize about things. Most foreigners come to Brazil either on business or vacation, of course they see the country with sugar coated eyes. Good luck!
